How do you do this pen trick?

There’s this pen trick my friend can do where he has the nib on one end and the lid on the other, he throws it in the air and catches it, and the nib is under the lid. He also can do it while spinning the pen, how does he do this? Video links wood be good.

I’m not sure what you are talking about when you say “nib on one end and the lid on the other”, but if he throws it in the air, it’s probably an aerial trick. The most common one is probably Aerial Thumbaround, where you do a TA and use your wrist to pop it in the air, then catch it (usually between your index and middle). Here’s a link to it:
