Where to buy a block of wood for sculpture’s base?

I’ve just made an almost life-size head and neck sculpture, using air-dry clay that doesn’t require firing.

You probably won’t be able to just go buy a block of wood that is the perfect size, but call a few local lumber yards to see what they have. Also make a couple calls to cabinetry shops, they may have the right size wood and will definitely help you out if you want a small box built to take the place of a solid piece.

As for attaching, if it is a solid sculpture, you may be able to drill a couple holes in the bottom so that a dowel or bolt can easily fit, make similar holes in the base and epoxy or glue the base and sculpture together. A cabinetry shop can most certainly help you with this as well if needed, and may have an idea that will work better!
