Whittling Pocket

What’s the name of the cowboy Christmas special on TV 20+ years ago? Cowboy gets snowed in on his way to town
Does anyone remember this show?
The cowboy heads to town for a Christmas party, but ends up spending Christmas eve in a cabin with a mother and her children — he cuts them a Christmas tree, whittles a toy for the young boy, gives cloth to the mother to make a dress for the girl, and leaves his pocket knife as a gift for the older boy. He never does make it into town, he ends up going back to where he started from and giving the candy (intended for his sweetheart in town) to the old coot miner he hangs out with.
It was a Hallmark Hall of Fame TV-movie, “Stubby Pringle’s Christmas”, with Beau Bridges in the title role. It aired on December 17, 1978. It was based on the short story of the same name by Jack Schaefer, who also wrote the novel “Shane”. That didn’t make a bad movie, either.
