He is a Chief of Sauk.
Native American
Any War like Black Hawk War
Blackhawk was a native American tribal leader in Wisconsin, Minnesota & Illinois areas back in the 1820s if I rememeber right
Lincoln enlisted in that “war” and was elected a captain of his local militia group; he once stated that he was as proud of thatelection from his small platoon as any election he ever won in his life
To answer your question: there was gross racial hatred against tribes by many different groups of white Americans; Lincoln was forced to defend an elderly Indian that wandered into the town where his company was staying. When his men threatened the man Lincoln defended him and told them that they would have to fight him first; they let him go

Black Hawk Down $6.49 After the success of Gladiator, it wasn’t unusual to see director Ridley Scott turn to Hans Zimmer again for the score to Black Hawk Down, his fierce adaptation of Mark Bowden’s account of the tragic 1993 American military intervention in Somalia. What was more surprising was the schedule Scott imposed on the German-born composer: 15 days to write, arrange, and record the film’s nearly two hours o… |

Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Academy Awards Animation Collection – 15 Winners, 26 Nominees $9.93 The Oscar for Animated Short Film has been a useful if not entirely accurate gauge of the state of American animation, as this three-disc set demonstrates. The Academy created the category in the early ’30s to honor Walt Disney’s contributions to the art form. But most of the films in the collection date from the ’40s and ’50s, when Warner Bros. and MGM artists won most of the Oscars for pushing t… |

Sergeant York [VHS] $15.51 Gary Cooper plays Alvin York, the real-life country lad and sharpshooter drafted to fight during World War I but blocked from killing by his pacifist sentiments. Howard Hawks makes a rousing, heroic film out of the tale, and Cooper gives one of his best performances (for which he won an Oscar). The 1941 feature seems as much a valentine to wartime America (and a not-so-subtle piece of propaganda) … |

To Have and Have Not [VHS] $3.91 Yes, it’s true: you can virtually see Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall falling for each other in this Howard Hawks variation on Casablanca but adapted from–as legend has it–Ernest Hemingway’s self-declared “worst novel.” (The story goes that Hawks told Hemingway he could make a movie of the author’s least work, and Hemingway gave him the rights to this story.) The script by William Faulkner and… |
