Choosing A Warm & Comfortable Blanket

For one or two hundred years, the preferred materials to produce blankets were cotton and wool. At certain times and in selected circumstances, animal skins and alternative plant materials have been implemented, but we keep returning to the simplest materials to acquire and fabricate into large, comfortable pieces of material.  Be sure to check out the multiple types of waterbed sheets.

JCPenney features a few kinds of cotton blankets, although their finest blanket is the Linden Street Egyptian cotton blanket. This line is made out of the world-renowned cotton that is cultivated along the Nile River and has the greatest cotton fibers obtainable. The long fibers lend this fabric a silky hand which is quite difficult to achieve with any other kind of cotton. Linden Street blankets may be bought in a wide variety of shades to compliment your bed linen, and are 6 inches longer than normal blankets, which makes these products ideal for dormotories. If you prefer your cotton American grown and your linens somewhat more upscale, Land’s End sells a top of the line Supima Elite Cotton Blanket constructed from the finest American cotton. The Supima fibers were combed for superior softness and the distinct weave of these blankets creates both airflow and warmth, which makes them ideal for year-round use. For some strange reason these American grown and produced blankets are costlier than JCPenney’s imported merchandise, however. A Queen sized blanket from Land’s End can run $71.50 prior to the shipping charges.

Wool is somewhat more expensive than cotton and not as easy to clean. Nonetheless, when properly fashioned it can be almost as smooth and it is substantially warmer on a frigid night. Pendleton has been crafting well made woolen materials for over a hundred years, and their Eco-Wise Wool benefits from this company’s century-old craftsmanship along with their latest progress in eco-friendly stewardship. Their Eco-Wise Easy-Care blankets will be machine washable in cold water and are created from 100% pure virgin wool. Pendleton’s Queen size blanket costs $148.

If your habits are more intercontinental and you are okay with sheep with an interesting accent, Garnet Hill markets Merino Wool blankets. Merino wool has long been the world’s most valuable wool and is sought after for its softness and strength. The blankets are a little oversized to accommodate thicker mattresses and are edged with a satin binding. These blankets are manufactured in Australia, so when one considers the import fees and the overall quality of these blankets, the $230 cost for a queen sized blanket is not completely unusual. These blankets need to be dry cleaned, by the way.
