What can cause my 2001 Pontiac Aztec to idle very high while I am driving?

We just had the intake gasket replaced and a new thermostat put on, it ran fine for a couple of weeks. I have to ride my brakes to stay under the speed limit. When I put it in park it sounds like it is going to explode, because it is idling so high. I also just had the transmission rebuilt. Can someone please tell me how I can fix this problem? It is very dangerous. Thank you very much.
