Tortoise Shell
How would I go about making a fake tortoise shell?
Im trying to make a tortoise shell out of stuff that i can buy at my “Hobby Lobby” store, but i have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?
be creative – make it out of stuff lying at home. 
- try an inverted styrofoam plate/bowl . scour & paint
- an inverted coconut shell, without any fibers. use acrylic colors or stick some fabric or paper pieces in the form of a collage to give a natural look
- papier mache – use an inflated balloon. cover half of it with 2-3 layers of kitchen roll or tissue paper using diluted PVA glue. when dry, just nip the balloon your shell is ready. paint.
- use any old ceramic or plastic bowl, inverted. paint with acrylic colors. [to make acrylic colors at home, mix PVA glue with poster colors]
- make a soft shell from fabric stuffed with cotton wool, etc. Applique the design on top.
- knit or crochet the shell & stuff.
- make a shell with weaved wires. cover over or under with fabric, etc.
