Make Your Own Duvet Covers

For those of you who have been trying tobuy full duvet cover then you probably know how expensive it is to make such a purchase. Do not throw in the towel just yet because there is another way – make the cover on your own. Below I share a few insights on how you can do this.

Don’t worry if at first you don’t make one that are high quality like your every day duvet cover set you find in stores but depending on how fast you catch on it can be something to be proud of. One of the major difficulties with making one on your own is when it comes to taking care of the place where the sheets are inserted. the problem may be with the sewing at the top where you would have your closures.

I suggest you start from the beginning. First, organize all the sheets that you will need. Make them to be the material that you like – For instance if you interested in a velvet duvet cover then it’s best you get the matching material. Pin the side and the bottom before moving on to the top section. Then after you can also think about how to fold the top sides.

Find the spot where the two sheet ends are joined together and make buttonholes. This should be at the top, right and then use the buttons to close. If you love ribbons you can use them as buttons. You should fold the sheet if it is longer than the quilt. I normally suggest folding it about 12 inches. You will then need to stitch it up on the sides such that it looks like an envelope closure.

As for the closure, you can choose a snap take, zipper or Velcro, depending on what suites you best. My best option is nylon zippers. This is because they make it easy for me to dress up the bed.
