Air force questions for bmt and tech school (fire fighter)?

I will be enlisting in a year from now after i finish up my two year degree for fire science at the local 2 yr college. Was curious as to the amount of time allowed after bmt and tech school. Have heard multiple answers where you are either pipelined straight to tech school or you are given a week back home. Can anyone please answer this for me? Also curious as to the deployment length for fire fighters. Are they still doing the 6 months on 6 months off? Anyone with answers? Thank you to all who help.

first off, good luck getting a firefighter slot in the airforce. all the military branches are contracting out their on-base fire departments to civilians, so they’re condensing their firefighter units. they are literally at 1000% strength, you cant even reenlist for firefighter, and they always offer more for reenlistment than for initial enlistments.
if you do manage to get a firefighter slot somehow, then yes you have the option of taking 1 week of leave after tech school, you dont have to.
deployments are getting less and less frequent for firefighters. a big part of it is, as i’ve said, they’re contracting it out to civilians. also we are pulling out of iraq and will have that much less of a need for servicemembers to deploy.
air force deployments, even for the rapid deployment forces, is normally 6 months there 1 year back. they try to keep that deployment to dwell time ratio.

if you want a military job that will look good to a fire department, join as either a medic in the army (theres a 14 week military medic to paramedic program at the national EMS academy, so all the better), a CBRNE technician, a PJ, any job in special operations, or EOD.

edit: recruiters cannot promise you a job, they can reserve a slot for a job so it doesnt get taken befor eyou get to MEPs, but thats ONLY if they talk to the carreer counselors there and find out whats open. they cant say “sure you can have this job” whether or not they know its available and have it garunteed.
