Heat treatment

Proper treatment for a sword is vital to ensure it won’t break.  Even a carbon steel-crafted sword can be brittle if it isn’t tempered right.  Make sure any time you buy swords online, the ones you choose are stated explicitly to be treated and tempered correctly.

Full tang

The last and possibly most important part of proving a sword is real is the tang.  This is where the metal part of the blade is inserted into the hilt or handle.  If a sword does not have a full tang, it probably will break when it’s beaten against any kind of material.  More dangerously, it can actually become loose in the grip even if it’s just swung with a regular amount of impact.

When you attempt to buy swords online, you want to make sure you’re verifying the above factors so you don’t get ripped off.  Often times a website will claim to sell “real swords” but in reality, all they have is cheap ripoffs for people who don’t know any better.

Consider yourself a real sword collector who knows his stuff and can test each type of sword for legitimacy.  What better feeling is there than to buy a real sword and use or display it as you please – while knowing it will never break?
