How do you clean a sword?

Just bought my first one and don’t know how to clean it because it’s a little dirty. I may add a picture later.

Appropriate cleaning methods depend on the type of sword you have.

If it is only a “little dirty” then wiping it off with a soft non-scratch cloth and oiling or polishing it, should be OK.

The hardest to clean are the Japanese swords – they require specialized cleaning materials, but they are worth it.
