Sugar Maple

Sugar Maple
How do I make pure maple sugar?

This is different than the leaf-shaped candies made from maple sugar. I can buy the granules at the health store but they are expensive, and because I have a big jug of pure maple syrup, it would be easy to make it. Does anyone have a recipe? There shouldn’t be any ingredients beside maple syrup. Thanks.

Are you sure you want to use real maple syrup to make sugar? I don’t have a recipe to share with you, but am just wondering why you would want to mess around making your own with expensive maple syrup. I’d just buy however much of the sugar I wanted and save that delicious syrup.

Long ago when I was young – early 1950s – there was a guy in our neighborhood who made maple syrup and also maple sugar. Seems to me I remember that he just boiled down the syrup until most of the moisture was gone for the sugar. But he had about a 30-acre maple woods, so he could afford to do stuff like that. He used huge pans and had a wood fire going beneath them. Ah, the good old days…..
