Stainless Steel Jacketing, Metal Jacketing – Protecting Insulation

Jacketing is a term used for covering installed covering insulation. It saves not only energy by efficient insulation but also provides cost saving and has a positive impact on environment. Insul-Mate stainless steel jacketing is used in annealed surfaces and most corrosive surfaces. Insulation Systems are used in primarily in refineries, power plants, chemical facilities and paper mills. Mainly the brand names that are used under this are:

• Pabco and Childers Metals
• Gerrard

Stainless steel jacketing has a melting point of approximately 2500 F, which offers the best fire protection of all metals. Stucco embossed finish on stainless steel reduces glare from sunlight and has a potential of masking application fingerprints and dents.

Moisture Retarder

Insul-Mate stainless steel jacketing is supplied with a moisture retarder that prevents galvanic corrosion which occurs due to contact of dissimilar metals in presence of water vapors and also chemical corrosion is prevented.

Products and Accessories

Among metal jacketing products and accessories are listed below:

• Elbows –

Different types of metals are used in elbows like aluminum, stainless steel that are 45° and 90° stainless steel elbows, and aluminum multi-fit elbows made from quality alloys. Ideal Products provides elbows such as AA Weather Jacs, large bore pressed elbows.

• Sheets-

Sheets like deep corrugated sheets which are made from metals like aluminum, stainless steel and it is having aluminum painted moisture retarder. The property of corrugating is available in 1 1/4″ by 1/4 deep and 2 1/2″ by 1/2″ deep profiles.

• End Caps-

Precision Fit End Caps provides Labour and material cost savings, and there is no need for onsite fabrication. These are available in different sizes and are produced from 1100series. End Caps are designed for multi-fit sizing with each separate size End Cap.

• Roll Jacketing-

This technique is used in insulated pipes, tanks and vessels less than 8 ft. in diameter. It is used in various fields and is widely used in commercial and transportation. Ultrolon®, which is highly corrosion-resistant aluminum roll jacketing; and Muffl-Jac, that acts as sound barrier jacketing used with fibrous and closed-cell insulation materials as a control form of acoustic treatment.

• Banding –

Strapping and seals manufactured under the Gerrard brand name.

• Expansion Springs –

They come in 4″ and 2″ lengths. These springs are made from 300 series stainless steel, and are able to withstand any sort of weather and job site conditions.

• Others-

Accessories provided by stainless steel jacketing, metal jacketing are fabstraps, pab bands, clips etc.

Applications

It is used in different fields like in paper mills (digester tanks, bleach tanks and waste treatment etc.).

It is also used in steel mills (coke ovens, furnaces, aromatic plants) and in chemical refineries and fertilizer plants.
