Mounting Systems For Aimpoint Micros
The Aimpoint Micro red dot sight has taken the world by storm. At only 3.7 ounces inclusive of the thumb screw MIL STD 1913 rail mount supplied, the Aimpoint Micro 4 MOA red dot sight is an ideal back up for larger sight systems and an option for firearms down to 9mm pistol size. The NV capable Aimpoint T-1 is already in action in Afghanistan where it is used in conjunction with Aimpoint’s 3x magnifier.
Aimpoint themselves, together with a number of established US firearms accessory manufacurers soon brought out a range of quality mounts to adapt the Aimpoint T-1 to almost any weapon or mounting configuration. The most popular Aimpoint Micro red dot platform by far, however, is the AR15.
Aimpoint themselves offer a variety of mounts for the T1 to allow it to mount high or low on pistols, rimfires and AR15s. The mount that comes as standard with the Micro uses a thumb nut to attach the sight firmly to any MIL STD 1913 rail. The manufacturer offers an Aimpoint Micro Quick Release Kit to switch the thumb nut mount included with the Micro red dot to quick detach operation. This inexpensive unit is made entirely of steel and is a quick upgrade path to a low QD mount. US and European rimfires are catered for with an aluminium replacement base that slides on to a 3/8″ or 11mm dovetail. To put the red dot just above the front sight post on flat top AR15s Aimpoint had La Rue Tactical make their LT660 mount incorporating their patented lever locking quick release mechanism. Co-witnessing of other back up iron sights in the bottom third of the rear lens is possible with the LT660.
Daniel Defense decided to make a mount that would put the sight in the optimum co-witness position but make it non quick release. Daniel Defense use two large slot headed machine screws to clamp the mount to the rail, set into stainless inserts so that recoil and vibration won’t shake them loose. It offers a tunnel for the use of lower sightline iron sights and is reversible, snag free and very light at only 1.8 ounces.
The GG&G Accucam Aimpoint Micro Mount, a quality US made mount, again puts the T1 at the optimum height for co-witnessing and includes their patented Accucam adjustable lever operated clamping mechanism which adapts even to worn or out of spec rails. Flip up lens covers are included to keep dirt and rain off your precious lenses.
A very low quick release mounting system is the American Defense Micro Mount or AD-T1-L. The American Defense Micro Mount bolts on in place of the standard mounting base and is only .31 inches in height.
