Stainless Sword

Me and my friends want to fight with a sword for fun.. should we use stainless steel? or a battle ready sword?
OK- let me start with this… we are both HIGHLY trained with swords.. but only with using them. i have a stainless steel sword… and a full tang, battle ready, sharp sword. which one do i use? i tested a stainless steel katana on my battle ready sword, and it gave one of them a small nick… and dont want any nicks on my sword if at all possible… also how do i do that??!?! how do i block without getting the sword nicked?
These swords are katanas btw
again, we are both HIGHLY trained with swords… it is for compititon and we cannot use foam swords. i just wanted to know which is better… which one will not break- but i used a tanto with a stainless steel sword and the tanto was nicked… i dont want that to happen to my sword.. Please answer the question, otherwise to not post..
I can tell from your question that you are not “highly trained” with swords, nor have you had any legitimate training what so ever. Watching videos on the internet or TV doesn’t count as training.
1) a stainless steel sword will snap in two incredibly easily, it is not designed for use at all under any circumstance. Case and point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mspT919F…
2) there is no “competition” which uses live blades against one another. to suggest that you have some legitimate reason for endangering your life and the life of your friends insults our intelligence.
3) Furthermore, there is absolutely no benefit from playing with sharp swords. Just because you have a sharp sword doesn’t mean you will be practicing real swordsmanship. In all likelihood you’ll develop both bad technical habits and a poor understanding of what a duel really is. Most all duels were over in one or two strikes and lasted about 2 seconds…they did not last 5-10 minutes like in the movies…in a fair amount of those duels both individuals got cut.
