Why do small children like to pretend that they are fantasy characters?

Many of the toddlers I know love to pretend that they are Spider man, or sleeping Beauty. Why do little children do this? What do they get out of it too?

It stretches their Imagination. It makes them be creative and gives them a level head later on in life. It’s a positive thing. Kids need to play to learn and grow. They need to be taught that everything is possible even if they are spider-man.
