Sow Belly

Sow Belly
2 lovebirds, first time owners please read need help! all feathers gone off ones belly, skin showing and looks?

one of the lovebirds has no feathers where its spine is, just skin sowing, and its belly where it looks dry and maybe a little sore, the other love bird has a little missing on its back, but nothing like the other one, what could cause this? could it be bullying? mites? i am worried about the one with the bare stomach! :( they are 6 months old we have hd them for about a month

Your bird is not molting, molting birds won’t completely lose their feathers in one area. Their feathers will gradually fall one by one, each replacing the one above or behind it.

What your bird seems to be experiencing is self-multitation. This happends when a bird has suffered a traumatic or stressful event. Or, your lovebird simply is bored. Provide him with toys, treats, and lots of love. It is very important to interact and socialize with your pet bird, they need as much attention as anybody else would. However, a more serious problem could be the issue. They might have a health disorder in which they aren’t able to regain their feathers for a while, which could be the cause of lack of nutrients.

All of these possibilities, nevertheless, require a trip to the vet. They can help your bird by medication, which can solve the problem quickly. More serious cases, such as self-multitation, take long weeks for your lovebird to heal. Also, mites will not be the cause of feather loss. Whent hese parasites infest the feathers, they do not cause them to fall off.

I hope that helped, and good luck.
