What are the small guides closest to my spincast reel for?

Im new to fishing and was given a zebco hawg seeker as a gift. I dont know what the small guides closest to the reel are for? 1 below and one above running along side the pole and adjacent to the string guides.

They are called hook keepers. You can hang your hook or lure on them.
