Serrated All
All-around hunting knife?
What is the best all-around hunting knife style/configuration (i.e. serrated, non-serrated, gut hook, etc)? Fixed blade preferable. I will be skinning/quartering deer and hogs with it.
I realize that a knife can’t be all things for all purposes, but what’s a close enough multi-tasker?

I have a Cold Steel Master Hunter and find it to be as close to the perfect hunting as I have found. I do not like serrated edges nor gut hooks because they are too hard to sharpen, especially in the field. My preference is a non-serrated edge on my knife. While a gut hook can be quite helpful, do not get one on a hunting knife. They make one with changable blades that is not bad. I have one of them and carry it with me. It is okay because you don’t have to sharpen the blade, when it gets dull, you just change it like you would with a box knife. I have hunted for many years (over 40) and have found that a well made, simple knife with good steel in the blade is the best knife. There are many good knife makers out there, I like Cold Steel, myself.
