How do I drive a semi automatic car?

Looking to buy a smart car which has semi automatic gears, i.e. no clutch but shift up and down controlled by driver. Having never driven anything but manual cars I am a little unsure of how to drive one? The main concerns i have are initially pulling away and slowing down/stopping at roundabouts, would i need to press the brake while selecting drive (D) to prevent the car moving?
