Should Yahoo! Answers Be More Tightly Regulated with Respect to Homework Questions?
As I was scrolling through the Science and Mathematics section, I was disheartened by how many questions were homework questions. Virtually all of the posters showed no effort in trying to solve the problem themselves, and many just straight copy and pasted the question from their homework. Moreover, many posters simply posed the answer to the question, most likely an attempt to bolster their rating. I feel that this portrays the wrong image for Yahoo! Answers site where students can simply copy and paste homework questions and get answers without learning the actual methods involved in solving the problem. I am more than happy to answer a person who showed some effort in solving a problem, but ran into a problem, but I feel that this is the vast minority of questions being asked in the Mathematics and Science section, especially in the Physics and Mathematics sections.
Do you think this is a problem, and if so, what can be done to helo solve the problem?
I think it is a major problem that so many students expect others to do their homework for them. Questions regarding homework should be listed only in a separate area for homework help-not scattered throughout the different areas and certainly not in the general category on the home page.
Also it should be reportable for anyone to actually do the work and provide the answers for them. How are they going to learn if others are doing their work?
