My First Experience As A Biker
Having a mundane white collar job at a law firm one really does not get to express their personality passionately. My job is very confining and structured. After time, as with most things, I desired a change. As often is the case, I started to make a list. As I was searching for the first things I yearned to do, I realized that making a list was not one of them. I ripped up the piece of paper.
I leapt from my chair quickly seeking the nearest exit. After a brisk golf walk to the garage I secured myself in my SUV and decided to take in the open road. This was one of the things I yearned for: the open road. I recalled when driving was a novelty and how I enjoyed watching the pavement glide beneath the car. The windows would be open and I would enjoy the fresh air. This was what I yearned for.
The traffic light stopped me. As I awaited the green, I turned to my right to see a well outfitted man and his significant other on a noisemaker. It was a stylish, yet rugged looking bike. He looked like a model dressed as a bike rider. He wore a well maintained leather jacket that looked almost new. He was covered from head to toe with a black helmet, gloves, and stylish leather boots. It was hard to tell his age. His female companion also appeared attractive and dressed in a similar fashion. This was my calling.
I suddenly knew what I yearned for: to ride a motorcycle. I had to test drive one at the very least. I figured I might even be able to get a weekend lease to see how I enjoyed the machine. I steered my auto directly home. As I slowly parked in the garage, I was confronted by my other failed attempts. For instance, a jet ski, fishing rods, and alpine skiing equipment. But this time it would be different. I went inside to look for a local dealer.
My conviction was strong. The main reason was that this was a more convenient outlet. I did not need a large body of water or ski slope in order to obtain this feeling. I could hop on my hog and take a ride. I could do this almost anytime I yearned for the open road. After find a business directory, I made a list of the local motorcycle shops. The first one I decided to go to was a domestic manufacturer with a strong reputation.
I asked a lot of questions to the salesperson. He was very well informed and had on a stylish men’s sport watch. He gave me an idea of the general costs, the differences between the bikes, and the type of riding I wanted to experience. I said I wanted to feel the joy and freedom of the open road. He pointed me to a high handle bar low rider. I could see myself in it already. I asked if it was possible for me to try out for a few days.
He replied quite affirmatively. He had received similar inquiries before. There were many customers who wanted to try on the bike before making a full purchase. Making an immediate commitment seemed a little out of place given the freedom they were looking to sell. Also, there are the considerations of one’s spouse and relatives. I signed the appropriate papers and went out on the open road.

Laid Back $2.80 By the end of 1973, the Allman Brothers Band seemed to have it all nailed down. They’d proven their mettle with a fine synthesis of blues, jazz, folk, and country influences; expanded upon it with the definitive Fillmore East set; and moved forward after the separate losses of guitarist Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley. The group’s myriad strengths, in fact, might’ve been the reason that one … |
