Best Watches For 2009 Christmas Gifts

The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1 Vintage and the Grand Carrera Calibre 17 RS2.

The Calibre 1 has a mechanical hand wound movement, a 43 mm diameter case, a transparent back and is limited to 6000 pieces worldwide. The Calibre 17 RS2 utilizes Grade 2 Titanium (Ti2) with a black titanium carbide treatment, which makes the already corrosion resistant metal even more resistant to damage. The RS2 has a matte black alligator strap with a “soft touch” coating. The dial is very nice looking with a red colored seconds hand, a red stripe on the crown and red stitching on the inside of the strap. The RS2 has a COSC certified chronometer movement and black-gold hand applied hands. I will be taking a closer look at these watches in Basel next week. From the pictures I would have to say these might be the best looking TAG watches I have ever seen. The fact that TAG Heuer is utilizing black treaments on their watches is further proof that this is not just hype, but that black watches are here to stay.

Victorinox Alpnach Mechanical Chronograph

Victorinox Swiss Army models are generally very popular, and I am sure the new Alpnach Mechanical Chronograph will be no exception. The Alpnach line is named after the heliport base for Cougar helicopters, which is the pride of the Swiss Army. The 43 mm case is two-tone made of 316L steel and black PVD. The signature of the watch is a 4-blade rotor that is used to display seconds at 9 o’clock. Of the standard functions the most notable is the countdown timer. The movement is an automatic chrono Valjoux 7750 with a 46-hour power reserve.

The Hublot One Million Dollar Diamond Big Bang is already sold, but the owner was nice enough to allow Hublot to display it at their Baselworld booth this year. Of course it was under the condition that it would be protected by a self-concealing Raptor Alarm system.
