Can you get arrested in New York City for carrying a replica samurai sword in public?
I was handcuffed and arrested by a New York City police officer for carrying a replica samurai sword, in public, on Halloween. The entire length of the blade is completely dull but it is made of metal. I had it in its sheath and was carrying it on my shoulder. I looked through the New York Penal Law but nothing on replica samurai swords, though I did find the law against carrying cane swords. Was my arrest warranted?
You can get arrested for carrying pretty much any weapon. Your arrest was warranted. The same goes for cane swords unless they’re antiques.
