How does an automatic transmission get power?

I’ve been reading up on automatic transmissions. I know that the power coming from the engine is multiplied by the torque converter through it’s centrifugal design. But I’m wondering how the power from the engine is outputed? Through a gear, through pressure, I’m not sure what how the engine exchanges power to the transmission.
