Nitrous Blitz

About California knife laws?

Would it be legal to own/carry an HK 14460 Nitrous Blitz in California? It’s a spring-assist folder with a 3.4 inch blade. Any related/relevant information would be greatly appreciated.
OK, cool, thanks, but are there age limits? My 15-year old friend has a folder and he says it’s legal.

I am not an attorney, but in the past I owned a knife shop, and California knife laws are squirrelly. There is considerable variation of interpretation and enforcement of the laws between various law enforcement jurisdictions. When I went to shows the first thing I did was called a local police officer to my table and ask if anything I was selling was not considered legal in their jurisdiction. However, this is the way I understand the restriction. If the blade is held under tension until remotely released (like the button on the typical switch blade) it is illegal. If you have to act directly on the blade–a thumb stud is ok–to open the blade, even if it is spring assisted it is legal. The 3.4 inch blade may present a problem in some jurisdictions if you are carrying it in your pocket, but carrying it in a sheath on your belt will usually take care of any problem. Personally I don’t think there will be a problem. If I wanted it I would purchase it then contact local law enforcement to see if there are any local problems–I don’t anticipate any, unless you live in someplace like Sacramento or the Bay Area.
