What is the value of a S & W 44 magnum model 29?

This gun is in a black box with S&W logo and 44 MAGNUM on the top. The box is in fairly good condition and it has 4 pieces of cleaning apparatis. The gun is blue steel and in very good condition. Inside near the hinge is an O and beneath 67990 and below that may be an o. On the right side above the front of the trigger guard is: MADE IN USA, MARCAS REGISTRADAS, ETC. It has a 6 1/2 ” barrel if measured from the end of the cylinder. It has a red bead on the sight. The grips are checked.
This gun was given to my father in 1963 at the death of my great uncle.

This model was cataloged in 4 and 6 1/2 in. barrel. The 4 in. is rare. Also, a rare variation in this model is a 5 in. barrel. Only 500 were mfg. in 5 screw Pre-Model 29 variation with bright blue finish, diamond target stocks, and wood case.

The “S” serial number prefix was used on this model until 1968, at which time the law required a new numbering system, and the serial number prefix was changed to “N”. The “S” prefix originally designated the additional hammer block safety.
