Lockblade Knife

All You Need to Know about Knives

Knife is probably one of the most ancient tools still used today. However, the first ones were made of rock and flint but today they come in different designs and materials with unique types of blades ranging from folding knives to fix blade knives. More so, a knife is a multipurpose tool but whatever the purpose, having a good knife is very important since you never know where you might need it and how it may save the day.The most important thing that a buyer must consider before choosing one is what he or she will be using it for. A knife that is easy to carry around and use will be the best. Besides, one should go for one that is easy to clean and has a longer shelf life. The cost of a regular tool should be affordable and there are cheap quality knives available on the market.

The size of the blade is worth consideration since it determines the weight. If the size of the blade is huge, it would probably be heavier making it difficult to carry it around and also hard control when in use. Therefore, it is better to go for one that is at least six inches long and with smooth cutting edges for easy sharpening.

The fix blade type and the handle are two different pieces held together by a nut. This is what makes it weak and someday the two pieces eventually separate. Choose a knife in which the blade goes all the way through the handle. Fixed type is the most basic type and it has a single piece of metal connected to a handle and is designed to tackle tough jobs.

Many people do not choose folding knives of the fear that the hinge might loosen up or there might be other problem with it. This type is very compact and easier to carry. More so, they are hard to manufacture and they come with different folding mechanisms with some having a locking system.

Due to complexity in designs, the blade types that are usable happen to be limited. They are less durable compared to fixed blade knives. Butterfly knives have two handles that have cavities that house the knife cutting edges. It bears many similarities with the folding knife but its mechanism is entirely different.
