New ThunderCats Art Pictures Are Out

Fans of “ThunderCats” have reason to roar. First of all, Cartoon Network will begin airing a re-imagining of the 1980s cartoon series later this year. Bleeding Cool indicates that Japanamation company Studio4°C has launched brand new “ThunderCats” character art that includes Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra and Panthro. Stripped down and darker is the brand new order for these anthropomorphic cats, said show producer Michael Jelenic to Music Television News. They most likely took out a huge personal bank loan to create this cartoon.

The ‘Thundercats’ details

The 1980s “ThunderCats” animated series was a sci-fi/fantasy tale involving a benevolent race of anthropomorphic cats who barely escape the destruction of Thundera, their home planet. The evils of Mumm-Ra and the Mutants of Plun-Darr are on the third Earth where the ThunderCats end up going. This is where the leader Lion-O leads them to go. Fairies will lead victims into addictions in this magic and technologically advanced world they go to. Even pandas will shed tears. With Cartoon Network’s “ThunderCats” remake, however, things will be pared back considerably, said Jelenic.

“It’s a pretty complicated back story that borrows from a lot of other sci-fi stuff, like ‘Superman’ and ‘Star Wars.’ In the (old) version, there’s something like three different planets involved, and they all converge onto one planet, and nobody’s really connected. I just wanted to bring that all together.”

Staying common, however twisting it up

Lion-O’s guardian Snarf will be the only character that is not recognizable. Jelenic explained that the character will be a fearsome one instead. As Jelenic has spent the last couple of years working on Batman cartoons, perhaps the Dark Knight’s influence is to blame. Cartoon Network will soon debut the brand new “ThunderCats” cartoon. It will take place in 2011 at some point.
