What could this unusual growth be on my lion head goldfish?

My daughter has had this lion head goldfish for about a year. One week ago I noticed this pimple like growth coming out it’s side. It is on the right, closer to the dorsal fin than the stomache, and closer to the tail than the head. It does appear to be getting bigger. The fish still eats and poops. If this fish is dying I need to find another for this will be traumatic for my daughter.

Could be the start of ick, which looks like grains of salt, easily treated with ick cure, aquarium salt or meltyl blue. (try clout its great). Could be a scale that got hooked off or it could be a hook worm.

Clout or any parasite medication will take care of it if it is ick or a worm or many things. When in doubt treat. Turn off your lights and take out the carbon from the filter.

If you’re not using a filter, it could be an ulcer from poor conditions. If you treat and it doesn’t go away, change to a tank with a filter (use proper set up and cycling techniques).
