Leather Sheath

Any way to keep a knife sheath supple?
I’ve got some knives made by Marbles, and some knives from Sweden. My dad had a knife of his that he got 40 years ago, that had a leather strap, become very brittle and the snap broke as he was trying to unlatch it. So I was wondering if there was any way to maintain sheath leather, because I can see a lot of my knives getting like that if I don’t do anything.
You can use saddle soap. If you want to make leather really supple I found a coat of Ballistol lube works wonders. However It will darken the leather. Not blacken mind you but darken it like it was wet.
