Knives Desert

If I was walking in a desert, and spotted a cactus would I be able to stab it with a knife and drink its water?

The barrel cactus is known to have liquid which is palatable to help ward of dehydration. You can also take chollo and prickley pears and burn off the needles and get liquid from that. You can find prickly pears at a lot of markets.
