Emerson Knives: Knife Spotlight

Emerson knives are the gold standard for people serious about real combat weaponry. Used through the law enforcement community as well as the armed service, there are designs offered to people who are neither police officers nor military. Sharpened on one side for the most effective use, sportsman, elite forces, and housewives all are aware of the benefit from owning an Emerson knife.

Emerson Knives, Inc is a company started by Ernest Emerson after his curiosity was piqued from a simple present given by his grandpa as a child: his own personal blade. He was a skilled martial artist who dealt with combat weaponry, and while studying, needed a specific blade for the class. As a result of sheer inspiration and within financial limitations, he thought he would make his own knife, or a fixed blade knife.

His knife making abilities shocked fellow classmates and they began making special orders. He sold these first designs without ever making a profit. Noticing the demand increase, he eventually raised the cost, but this didn’t slow interest in his hand crafted designs. Although it would eventually be years before he started making blades for a living, he took that same satisfaction in his projects to become a success.

Before the Viper series was well known, he had pre-tactical variations of his knives. All of these models were liner lock folding knives. Though liner lock knives are made for portability and ease of use, the workmanship he put into his designs also made them visually appealing. Displayed at knife exhibitions and known for their beauty, these blades gave him what he needed. He now had the resources to produce designs he wanted, which included combat knives.

Emerson still trained as a martial artist and noticed that a fixed blade knife was used in combat training, although the same classmates favored folding knives in real world applications. He solved this with the creation of a solid folding knife used for combat training in the real world. He had taken his older designs and improved the grip so that they were less fancy (not highly polished and colored) than those placed on display. The tip was ground so that it would be wider. The specific purpose of a Viper knife was to fulfill a need among military and law enforcement.

Knives like the Commander are being used by Navy Seals and other elite groups within the armed forces. Not surprisingly, the durability of this knife has made it a hit among many outdoorsmen. Additional combat versions such as the Kandahar along with the CQC designs include a fixed blade and are currently used by Afghani military. The Karambit, with its design, is not like any others produced in the United States. With its small curved blade, it is really an obvious choice in up close combat.

Emerson knives are offered in automatic or manual versions. Be sure to watch out for special edition and special runs if one is a enthusiast. Ask about knife shows in the region, and don’t forget to inquire about the specific use of the knife you are looking at..

Emerson knives will usually take custom orders, there is however no guarantee. You can find plenty of models for sale that custom may not be necessary. Not everybody could afford his knives, but as times have changed, that same value comes in less expensive models to ensure that everyone can purchase one.
