Dragon quest 9- quest #112 (ranger changer)?

I know how you complete it, i killed one but i then forgot to save so i had to start again. I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to finish it quicker, it just takes too long and im getting bored of making everyone defend, sometimes it doesn’t envenomate and the hocus chimaera’s just use midheal after 11 turns anyway. Is there an easier way like a good knife to use or something- i bought the cheapest knife i could find is that the problem? Thanks in advance

What you should do try to posion it first, then weaken the chimaera with additional blows, making sure to stop BEFORE you kill it with attack damage.

Otherwise there is no real way to speed this quest up.
