why does an iron knife kept dipped in a blue copper sulphate solution turn the blue solution light green?

Iron is above copper in the activity series. This is an easy way to predict that when in contact, iron metal will oxidize and reduce copper ions to copper metal.

As iron is oxidized it forms Fe3+ ions in solution which gives the solution a yellow color. But since there are also hydrated copper ions in solution, which are blue, the two colors together — yellow and blue — make the solution appear green.
