How do you throw a knife correctly?

I know the basics but when I throw my knife it never hits so that it will stick. It almost always hits with the handle or the side of the knife. The knife is handle heavy so i hold the the blade when i throw. It has one sharp side.

Is it a proper throwing knife? Throwing knives have to weighted evenly in order to throw correctly. Also, I think you have to find the right distance and throwing force in order to make the point hit.

I dunno, I’ve never thrown any knives myself, but I had to research it a little once for a character I was writing.
