Knife Hand

Knife Hand
Which hand does the fork and knife go in?

Im going on my first date tomorrow and we are going to eat at a fancy restaurant. Which fork do I use for the salad and for the main meal. I’m right handed and which hand does the fork go in? When I’m cutting something, which hand does the knife go in? Thanks

If there are more than one fork, spoon, and knife in the place setting, work in from the outside. Use the outside one first, then the next one, and so on.

Fork and knife, American style:
Hold the fork in your left hand and the knife in your right hand to cut foods such as meat or fish. The put the knife down, and change the fork to your right hand to move the food to your mouth.

Fork and knife, European style:
Hold the knife in your right hand and the fork in your left hand to cut foods such as meat or fish. Keep the fork in your left hand and use it to move the food to your mouth. If the food is soft, press it against the back of the fork before lifting it. You can put the knife down or not between cuts.

If you use the European style in America, though, most Americans will think you’re nuts.
