Is it legal to carry a knife in Califorinia.?

I heard from someone that it is illegal to carry a knife on you in Califorinia. I am 14 I do alot of fishing. When fishing you use a knife alot. I was at the bait shop and the bait shop man saw the knife clipped onto my pants and said it is illegal to have knife clipped to your pants. It was a folding knife with a three inch blade clipped to my pants the clip sticking out?

No, I believe it can’t be over 4in. However, it is absolutely not illegal.
