how sharp should a camping knife be ?

i have various camping knives and i am wondering how sharp they should be, is there a way to test it’s sharpness ie on a piece of paper? and how do you make a knife razor sharp?

It makes sense to maintain a good edge as you never want to be in a situation where you need to cut through something quick and can’t.
