Knife Bayonet

How would a trench knife be used compared to a bayonet?

This is research for a story i am working on. The character is question will be a man in his 40′s and specialized in hand to hand fighting. I wish for him to have some kind of military history and wonder about the two combat knives in question. Any information would be helpful.

Well you would get an Art 15 if you tried to use a bayonet in a trench so that is why they came up with the trench knife. Trench knives aren’t as effective either in an open battlefield but you won’t get in trouble if you use a trench knife outside of a trench like you would a bayonet.
