Knife Ats

how important is HEAT treatment? EXPERTS PLEASE!?
I have several blank, ATS-43 knife blades. they have not been heat treated. I need to know how important heat treatment is for a knife’s edge retention, scratch resistance, etc. basically, i need to know if I can make a good knife out of the blanks without heat treating it.
if i cannot, i was wondering if there are any common local businesses that could heat treat them for me. I know there is a smithy shop a few miles away, along with several hardware stores.
or, is it possible to heat treat them myself?
thanks for your time
Fabrication will likely have been done in as close to ‘dead soft’
temper as practicable.
There’s no question that heat treatment will improve your product.
If you can estimate temperature, and ‘soaking’ is not required,
you can do it yourself on small blades.
A normal gas stove will serve to bring a small blade to red heat.
