Kershaw Chive

Would I be able to take a knife over the Canadian border?

I’m headed up to Canada from the US in a couple weeks for a weekend trip and I’d like to bring my pocket knife with me. It’s a tiny Kershaw chive, only about three inches long when closed, and the blade is only about two, which I believe falls under legal limits. It does have an opening assist mechanism, but what what I’ve managed to find, it should still be okay. However, I’m still looking for more input as some of the sources I’ve found have been inconsistent. Are there any problems I may run into while at the border?

First, you won’t be able to take it ona plane with you as a carry-on. It will have to be in your checked luggage.

Second, whether it is allowed in depends on that opening assist mechanism. I brought a Swiss army knife over the border in the past, and it’s largest blade was about 2-3 inches. It was classified as a tool and part of my camping gear, not a weapon.

What you have to look out for is whether it operates similar to a switchblade. If the blade is concealed and then fully extends with the opening assist, it may be ineligible.
