Where is the true “balancing point” on an authentic Japanese Katana sword?

In other words; I point my index finger straight out in front me pararlell to the ground, then lay the side of the blade on top of my finger. Then adjust the position of the blade until the entire sword balances out horizontally.
Where this point of balance be on the blade? I roughly balanced one out by taping counter-weights to the hilt and pommel until I could “windmill” the sword without it wanting to fly out of my hand. That rough balance point was four inches from where the hilt/handle starts.
I’m wondering if it might have varied with the weilder’s personal preference? If so, I could finish out the handle in a way that allows adding/removing weights at the end. Similar to how you can on a pool cue.
In case wondering, this has been a hobby for twenty years. I find swords with reasonably good blades but crappy,phony looking handles. I throw those handles in the trash then build a functional and very solid weapon of my own design.

The hilt where it meets the blade should balance perfect where in western swords you will note a top heavy blade compared to the hilt.

SO where the hilt and the blade meet, just as with a knife, check there for proper balance.
