Imperial Guard – Warhammer Painting?
I currently own an imperial guard army, a very small one – however i am bored of painting these (i paint don’t play).
Anyone got any ideas on a fun-to-paint army.
I don’t mind if they are warhammer or warhammer 40k armies.
thanks
Well, first of all I’d say that if you aren’t playing, you’ll find that doing so will drive your motivation to paint and finish your armies is that much higher. Of course, so will your motivation to spend inappropriate amounts of money on new things for your army (BANEBLADE!!).
However, if you really want to restrict yourself to small numbers of models (fewer than 20, say), then Space Marines are amongst the most satisfying of armies. Their large armour plates give lots of space on which to indulge oneself with freehand, extra detail like scribing, or heraldic devices like quartering. In addition, each Space Marine is a hero in his own right and customization within the Chapter theme is perfectly acceptable and encouraged (to a greater or lesser degree depending upon chapter, of course). This means that you can indulge in some variation between models whilst retaining the uniform look of the group.
In addition, should you feel moved to branch into actually playing the game, you can combine several small groups of completely different Space Marines into a “crusade” army made up of marines from several different chapters.
And, of course, if you find the idea of marines just too “vanilla”, then you can always divert yourself to a small Inquisition contingent and combine them all as an Inquisition army.
You may also find it helpful, in motivating yourself to finish, to join an online forum like Warseer.com or 40kterra.com, which have Project Log boards where you can chart your progress, post photos and get advice from veterans (and know-nothing idiots, too, of course – isn’t democracy great?). But be warned. These boards are dangerously addictive and the sheer volume of cool army ideas can be overwhelming!
