Imperial Series

what is a court painter? please read?
i know it sounds a stupid question but what is a court painter is it literally someone who paints people in court?
im doing some research on arcimboldo and a few web pages say “In 1562, Giuseppe Arcimboldo became a court painter of Emperor Ferdinand I (Habsburg) and left for Vienna, then moved to Prague. During the 2 years, when Arcimboldo served Ferdinand I, he painted several portraits of the Imperial family as well as the first series of his Four Seasons.”
thanks
Hi dukiflif….,
Any painter who is appointed to be the official painter of the royal court is called The Court Painter!
A court painter means that Giuseppe Arcimoldo was the painter of the royal family. This means that he was appointed by the king as the best painter of his time, and the only one fit to be commissioned to paint portraits of the royal family, as well as to paint any paintings that would be suitable to embellish the palace walls.
Sincerely,
Ms. Miche ; })
