Is the Victorinox Huntsman Plus knife from Walmart lower in quality than the Huntsman?

The reason I ask is because it is not listed on the Victorinox site and often products that are sold but not listed on a company’s site indicates that it is a mass merchandise item and is of lower quality. I called them and they said it should be of the same quality but I got different answers by email.

Just about everything from Wal-Mart is of low quality in my opinion. Wal-Mart should be renamed China-Mart as 90% of their merchandise is from China (except food). But if we wait long enough, even the food will be imported from China.

I would suspect that you are correct – it is a low end knife specifically manufactured for Wal-Mart. It is also possible that the knife is a discontinued model. That may be why it’s not on their web-site. It is no longer manufactured. So Wal-Mart buys up the entire inventory at a very low price, the resells them at their stores at normal retail.

The few reviews on the Wal-Mart site say it’s a good product.

The box is a marketing gimmick to make it look like a higher priced quality product that it isn’t. It’s called make-up (like women’s make up) designed to make something look like something else..
