Horn Handle

Horn Handle
What is the difference between road bike handle bars?

I am new in the whole cycling scene and was curious about the different type of handlebars im seeing. There are the normal one (ram horns is what i call them) The full curve one, and then the bullhorn handle bars. What is the difference, if any? Are they made for different uses? Can the bullhorns support the same brake levers and shifters as on the ramhorns? Any input would be awesome? Thanks guys!

The basic differences in handle bars are what they are used for, the ram horns as you call them are used for some types of racing but generally for all around riding. They are supposedly Ergonomically designed. The drop section allows for plenty of hand positions to ensure a comfortable grip, reduce fatigue and maximize braking/shifting performance. The TT bars or Bullhorn handle bars as you call them are made for Time trials, ( short runs with flat out speed ) and not really for everyday riding. You can make regular brakes work on the TT bars but they make brakes designed for those bars and as far as shifters, if you used bar end shifters you mite make them work, I don’t believe the sti shifters would work real well. There really is not much use for TT bars unless your going to be doing a lot of racing, if you want a more aerodynamic position try using aero bars like these http://www.performancebike.com/bikes//Product_10052_10551_1033712_-1___ They just attach or bolt to your regular bars for a more aero position. Hope this helped you out.
