Henry Schrade

Should I get my Schrade knife fixed?

I have a Schrade hunting knife that was given to me. It the Uncle Henry Bear Paw style for anyone who knows about this. The problem is, the spring that keeps the lockblade in place was gone, so I would have to keep my thumb on the lockblade while using the knife. I tried calling the company that bought Schrade, but they would only exchange it for a knife that is now being made overseas and without a serial number. I called around the area, and no one fixes pocket knives anymore. I could get another used one for $15, but I would rather just keep this one.

Should I just bear with it and use it while holding the lockblade in place? Or should I just get it exchanged for a new knife made overseas? Is it too dangerous to use a pocketknife with a thumb over the lockblade? Let me know. Thanks.

If it is how I’m thinking in my head, it should be fine the way it is. It would bother me that it was broken though so I would get a used one for $15. I would rather have the broken one than the one made overseas though.
