Hardwood Handle

Have a 10′ draecena highly infested with mealy bugs. Too large to move outside for spraying-what can I do?

Very difficult to spray since is on hardwood floor and dripline is wide. Newspapers get soaked and plastic drop cloth is not easy to handle in living area. Is there an effective soil treatment? Have read since mealy bugs do not lay eggs in soil, soil treatment is not effective. Has anyone solved this problem?
