Grade Black

What age do you have to be to grade for your black belt in karate?

I just started karate back because my dad die a few years ago and he always wanted me to get to black belt to make him proud.

In a Mcdojo any age. In a traditional dojo 16.
Not all black belts are the same. Some are given (not earned) out by how long you have been in the school but a true black belt ‘knows’ their martial art. A true black belt also does not just learn the techniques required to get from one rank to the next but truly learns his art including the culture and history surrounding his art to gain a better understanding and the ranks are just secondary. Martial art is not about fighting but to learn how to harness force which can be used in fighting but also in so many other different ways.
I do not mean to offend you but I do want you to think about this. To be a true black belt your heart will have to be in this as well. You can not do martial arts just to please someone else. You need to do it for yourself. I am sure your father would understand.
